Carlesg Puyol, Arsenal wrong to Cesc Fabregas 'dream move'

Latest News Update: Puyol, Fabregas wanted to go.......

Carles Puyol Barcelona defender feels Arsenal may be making a mistake by keeping Fabregas for another season as he doesn't want to be there.

The pursuit of Fabregas looks set to end in failure for now as Arsenal have shown no inclination to enter discussions over their captain, but Barca remain confident of taking the player back to Camp  in a year's time. Puyol feels Arsenal should have allowed him ''his dream move'' this summer and claimed his heart is already in Barcelona.

He is having to stay at a club where he no longer wants to be for another year, he told the Sun.  I wonder how intelligent it is keeping a player who doesn't want to be there. After seven years of great service, I thought Arsenal could have granted him his dream move. Cesc has given everything to Arsenal to try to win a trophy but they haven't matched his expectations.

I won't say he is in a prison, as we know how privileged we are as football players, but after how clear Cesc made it that he wanted to be in Barcelona, I thought they would have granted him that. We all thought a deal would be done this summer, but Arsenal have refused to talk and we are going to have to wait another year to get  home.

He is far too classy a guy to say it but the truth is he doesn't want to be at Arsenal this season. His heart is already in Barcelona, even though we must wait another year for his body to be here. We know he is arriving next season.

Barcelona have a whole year to sort the deal out. He is professional enough still to have a great season and also because he has a lot of respect for the Arsenal fans, but anybody who tries to convince themselves he wanted to stay at Arsenal is wrong.

Bye bye El Diego Maradona from Argentina Nation Team

He claimed the Argentina national team was a Rolls Royce in need of a service. He told journalists to suck it and keep sucking it. He said that if Obama was allowed to choose his backroom staff then so should he. He called up 108 players. He lost 6-1 to Bolivia. He told Pele to go back to the museum. He said that Pele 'made his debut' with a boy.

He took Ariel and Martin Palermo to the World Cup. He said the first three names on his teamsheet were Mascherano, Messi and Jonas Guttierez. He refused to train in the morning. He brought about the second international retirement of Juan Roman Riquelme.

Say what you will about Maradona and everybody is saying lots but beyond it being utter mayhem from start to finish, there is one simple inescapable fact: neither Basile, nor Passarella, nor Bielsa, nor Pekerman performed better at a World Cup. None went further than the quarter finals. Perhaps the problem with Argentine football is not just to do with the coaches.

Maradona opened himself up for criticism, he created several previously non-existent battles and his eccentric decisions were laughed at outside Argentina, making the blood letting now that AFA have chosen not to renew his contract as Argentina coach all the easier. The initial rum ours seemed to suggest that Maradona would stay on despite the embarrassing result with Germany in South Africa, but in Argentine football realpolitik it was just another man oeuvre.

It's convenient and easy to say with absolute certainty that with a more experienced coach Argentina would have reached, at least, the final four in South Africa. That may well be, but it gives whoever replaces Maradona the job of proving all those Diego critics right. The core of Maradona's side is young enough to remain for a number of years to come.

Amongst fans, the Boca contingent still want the Viceroy, Carlos, to be given a chance. Ramon features high up in the surveys, thanks to his success at River. Simeone's name has also been mentioned, perhaps more by virtue of being unemployed right now, and then come the rest.

Whoever comes in could follow a similar route paved by Mano Menezes this week. The new Brazil boss axed all but four players from the South Africa group in his first squad. Such wholesale change perhaps isn't needed for Argentina. The likes of Sergio Romero, Nicolas Otamendi , Mascherano,  MarĂa, Pastore, Tevez, Higuain, Aguero and Messi will all be key players for the coming years.

With the immediate task being winning next year's Copa America on home turf, and then mounting a serious challenge for the 2014 World Cup next door in Brazil, whoever comes in should invest confidence in a new crop of players that will be of age in four years time. For Argentina's next outing, against Ireland in Dublin on August 11, we'll have a side chosen by Maradona naming the squad was his last act in charge and coached by Under 20 boss Sergio Batista.

It's only after that when perhaps we will start to see the new-look Argentina. Perhaps it will be more competitive. Perhaps it will play better football. Perhaps it will play worse. Perhaps they will challenge for honors. Perhaps they will end up returning home after the first phase of the 2014 World Cup. Perhaps they will return with the trophy.Whatever happens over the coming weeks and months, it won't be the same round here anymore.

Chelsea have confirmed Drogba to stay at Chelsea for Ancelotti funds

Chelsea have confirmed that boss Carlo Ancelotti to get funds, Drogba to stay at Chelsea for them and also moved to quash rumours over Drogba's future. Ancelotti has so far made just one major summer signing with the acquisition of Benayoun from Liverpool for £5 million, but chief executive, Ron Gourlay, has confirmed that funds will be made available to Ancelotti.

If Carlo wants to bring a player or two into the squad then we will look at that, It has to be the right player to fit into the squad and obviously at the right price. If these things all come together then fine, we'll strengthen the squad. But only if Carlo feels it's necessary. Meanwhile, Gourlay made it clear that striker Drogba, back at the club's training ground after groin surgery, is not for sale despite interest from Manchester City.

Drogba will be a Chelsea player next year. The thing about this time of year is we always get . For our players to be in the news - it's normal. But Didier Drogba will be a Chelsea player next year. Meanwhile, Santo looks set to stay at the club - at least for the time being - after a move away from the club fell through.

Feyenoord football chief Leo Beenhakker admitted their loan bid for Santo was held up by financial constraints, Chelsea requires a contribution towards the salary of Santo and we can not afford that. I do have more irons in the fire, though no guarantees. I'll keep searching for a striker.

Robinho return to Mancester City order from Santos

Manchester City have demanded British record signing Robinho return to England on August 5 to sort out his future at the club. Robinho, who cost City £32.4 million from Real Madrid in August 2008, is on loan at Brazilian club Santos and is still being paid £150,000 a week.

Santos can only afford a small proportion of Robinho's wages, and City need to find a resolution for a player who has fallen out with manager Roberto Mancini. Indeed, there seems little hope of reconciliation. A source close to Robinho told, ''Manchester City have asked Robinho to come back and report on August 5, the player has no choice, even though he wants to stay with Santos.''

He loves the lifestyle, the football, and the beach. He doesn't want to swap that for the Manchester rain. There was an offer from Turkey, but it wasn't enough money for City. He wants to be back in Santos.

That is his hometown, they love him there, he walks down the street and he is the biggest celebrity in town, and after training he's straight to the beach. After a game, he's back on the beach. The football is great for him, he can show off his skills. But with City keen to off load him, the Brazilian's future looks unclear and he may even struggle to find another club in England.

"With City he is expected to run for 90 minutes, if they pick him, he might be tempted to play for a club in London, though, if anyone could afford his wages, but they couldn't. So, the big question is what do City do with Robinho, what can they do with him? Having invested so much money in the player it is a tricky problem for them.''

End of an era for Real Madrid 2010

Real Madrid midfielder Guti is leaving the La Liga giants after a quarter of a century and mulling an offer from Turkish club Besiktas.

The 33-year-old former Spain international, who joined Real's youth setup in 1985 and made his first-team debut a decade later, helped Real win five domestic league titles and three European Champions League titles.

A hero among hard-core fans and a club captain, he would be coached at Besiktas by German Bernd Schuster, who was in charge at Real between 2007 and 2008. Guti said, ''I am leaving with the knowledge that the Real Madrid family loves me and that's very important.''

Asked about his future, he added: "I have an interesting offer from Besiktas but I haven't decided yet. What I know for sure is that wherever I go I will give my best."Reports in Spain in recent days have said that another of Real's long-term servants, striker Raul, is also set to leave the Bernabeu and will announce his departure for Bundesliga club Schalke 04 on Monday.

Raul, 33, another club captain and a talisman for the fans, made his debut for Real in La Liga in October 1994 at the age of 17 and has won six league titles and three Champions Leagues, twice finishing top scorer in the Spanish league.

In October last year, he equalled German Gerd Mueller's record of 66 goals in the three main European club competitions when he scored against AC Milan in the Champions League. He holds the all-time scoring record for Spain with 44 goals in 102 appearances, one more than his successor in the number seven shirt David Villa.

Mancini looking to break up unsettled Torres

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is ready to make a big-money move for Fernando Torres if the striker decides to leave Liverpool.

Torres is believed to be unsettled at Anfield with new Reds boss Roy Hodgson admitting the Spaniard has a "beef'' with the club. Mancini is looking to add another top striker to his bulging squad and reports indicate he could spend up to £70 million to sign Torres ahead of Chelsea, or else look to Edin Dzeko of Wolfsburg or Inter Milan's Mario Balotelli.

Mancini said, ''Torres is one of the best strikers in Europe and is already playing in the Premier League for three years and knows it very well. But it depends on his situation - his price and whether he wants to come. There are two or three strikers that we could go for, but it is the same situation as it is with James Milner. First there is the price and then it depends if the players want to change team.''

Liverpool's failure to qualify for the Champions League removes that barrier from what City can offer, while the Manchester club's ability to pay their top players up to £200,000 per week would almost double his current pay packet.

Jerome Boateng, Aleksandar Kolarov, Yaya Toure and David Silva have already joined City this summer but Mancini's recruitment drive is far from over, although he admitted the almost limitless wealth of City's owners has been a sticking point in negotiations as clubs hold out for over-the-odds prices they know City can easily meet. Aston Villa midfielder James Milner is one player who continues to interest Mancini but he insists the club will not be held to ransom."When Manchester City enquire about a £10 million player, the club asks for £20 million.

That is not good for us,'' said Mancini. "James is still a player who interests us but only at the right price.''However, Robinho looks certain to leave Eastlands after Mancini confirmed the forward does not want to play for the club. The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Santos.

Mancini said, "I don't know about Robinho's situation because he doesn't want to come back, I have now, with all the new signings, 30 players. It is important that we get to the start of the season with only 25 players because that is the number of names we can put on the list. It is better for me and the other players who are not on the list that they go to another team. I think it is better for the extra that they go rather than staying and not playing. That would be a big problem, for the players and for us."

Argentina'll offered a new 4-year coach contract to stay Maradona

 Argentina National Team News:

The Argentina Football Association has announced Diego Maradona will be offered a new four-year contract that would keep him in charge of the national team through the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

AFA President Julio Grondona would meet next week with Maradona to discuss the offer. This is the strongest indication that Maradona is likely to continue as the coach.

Maradona had little coaching experience before taking Argentina on a roller-coaster ride to World Cup qualification. Few gave him any chance of turning his undoubtedly high-quality squad into World Cup contenders but they impressed on their way to the quarter-finals before being humbled 4-0 by Germany in South Africa 2010.

Cherquis Bialo said the association did not have another coach in mind should Maradona turn down the deal. He also suggested Argentina’s performance in the World Cup had been respectable, despite anything less than a third title being seen as a failure by many Argentines.

Argentina won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986, but has not won a major title since claiming the Copa America in 1993.

There was no playoff among the four quarter finalists eliminated. The losing semifinalists Germany and Uruguay did have a playoff game to decide third and fourth place.

Argentina President Cristina Fernandez has publicly supported him, and an Argentine legislator has proposed building a monument to honor him.

Grondona intends to meet with Maradona no later than next Wednesday to discuss the contract extension. Maradona said after his side's exit that he would consult his family and Many of his players, including Barcelona star Lionel Messi, have said Maradona should make his own decision about staying on the job.

Iniesta is the toast of Spain for winning goal World Cup final

Spain World Cup Iniesta Reports:

Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero singled out Andres Iniesta  has become a symbol of Spain's World Cup victory with, the scorer of the winning goal over the Netherlands, is the toast of his teammates as they celebrate their first ever during Spain's 1-0 World Cup final, for praise Monday, saying there was no better role model for youths.

A Spanish town which celebrates an annual Octopus Festival has requested that Paul, the "psychic" octopus who predicted Spain's be allowed to join them as a guest of honour 2010.

Zapatero said, '' he represents like no one else good football and human qualities. I want to make a special mention of somebody who yesterday remembered someone who is no longer with us when he scored the winning goal against with netherlands at World Cup in South Africa 2010.''

There is no better role model for our youths, given his talent and personal qualities. Thank you Iniesta for remembering Dani yesterday during an unforgettable day for Spain. Zapatero was referring there to the incident immediately after Iniesta scored his extra-time goal, when the 26-year-old took off his blue Spain jersey to reveal a white T-shirt bearing finals match.

Iniesta, who was Jarque's teammate on Spain's under-17, under-19, under-20 and under-21 teams, was given a yellow card for removing his jersey during the match. He gave the prime minister a red Spanish team jersey which was signed by the entire squad. I know he did not score the goal, he joked just before giving Zapatero the jersey.

I want to talk for a bit. Thank you for the welcome, I am very proud to be a part of this team and this little trophy is for everyone.

World Cup of Joy Iniesta pays greatest Spain's of FIFA 2010

World Cup finals news:
Spain star Andres Iniesta was, 26 years old and with all of Fuentealbilla, all of Spain, all of the world watching as he received a pass in the 116th minute of a scoreless World Cup final for the first time in their history the only goal of an enthralling final against the Netherlands from the end of extra-time on  11th July in South Africa of FIFA 2010.

Just as it seemed a third World Cup final was destined to be settled by a penalty shoot-out, the Barcelona midfielder found himself in space in the Dutch box and hammered an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

It was a cruel blow for a Dutch side that had hoped to eradicate memories of the country's defeats in the 1974 and 1978 finals. But the ultimate outcome of a contest both sides might easily have won inside 90 minutes will trigger few complaints from neutrals.

Over the two hours, the European champions enjoyed the better of the chances while the Dutch had defender John Heitinga sent off and seven other players booked, most of them for challenges that appeared cynically designed to disturb the rhythm of Spain's passing game.

Iniesta said, "What a joy especially when you see how we won it, there aren't the words to describe what I am feeling. After my goal, I thought about my family and all the people who I love. But the victory is the fruit of a lot of work."

Torres' evening was to finish on a much happier note however with his cross causing the disruption in the Dutch defence that granted Iniesta his chance.Villa had contributed five of the seven goals his side had scored en route to the final, but it was Sergio Ramos who looked most likely to give Spain an early lead.

The defender's header from Xavi's fifth-minute free kick drew a fine save from Stickleback and his menacing drive across the goalmouth was deflected over the bar by Heitinga without the Dutch centre back knowing too much abut it.

In between those two efforts, Dirk Kuyt had a 25-yard drive saved by Iker Casillas. But, with Villa soon finding the side netting with a back-post volley, Spain appeared well set for a rewarding evening.

The English official was obliged to book Robin van Persie, Carles Puyol, Mark van Bommel and Ramos in quick succession and the fifth yellow card might easily have been a straight red after Nigel de Jong's reckless high challenge resulted in him planting his studs into Xabi Alonso's chest.

Arjen Robben forced Casillas into his first significant save when he forced the Real Madrid goalkeeper to get down smartly at his near post as the Dutch finished the opening period strongly.

The Spanish reasserted themselves after the interval and left-back Joan Capdevila squandered a good chance to put them ahead when, from an unmarked position at the back post, he failed to connect with Puyol's flick-on of a Xavi corner.

Xavi shaved the post with a free kick but it was Holland who enjoyed the clearest chance of the second half when Wesley Sneijder's pass split the Spanish centre backs and sent Robben into a one-one-one with Casillas.

Substitute Jesus Navas delivered Spain's response to that let-off, drilling in a low cross that, after Heitinga had slipped, reached Villa at the back post. The Barcelona-bound striker got his shot away but Heitinga somehow managed to pick himself up and, with a full-stretch lunge, deflect the ball over.

Ramos, too, was profligate, heading another Xavi corner over after timing his run to the edge of the six-yard box to perfection. Spain were on top once more but the Dutch might have settled the contest ten minutes from the end of regulation time, when Robben got goal-side of Puyol and appeared to be illegally knocked off balance by the defender.

Cesc Fabregas, introduced for extra-time, was sent clear by Iniesta but struck his shot against Stekelenburg's legs. Navas also went close with a drive that slipped inches wide after a deflection off van Bronckhorst.

The red card that had looked inevitable all evening was finally issued at the start of the second period of extra-time, when Heitinga left Webb with no choice but to give him a second booking for pulling back Iniesta as he chased a pass from Xavi that would have sent him clear in the box.

As a professional, Jarque was the captain of Espanyol. Iniesta is an icon with Barcelona. These are two clubs inhabiting the same city and it produces all the rivalry you can imagine. They weren’t supposed to be friends. Mutual respect brought them together, breaking boundaries that fans didn’t always understand.

You honor those that are working for you, by working for them. You honor friends by never forgetting their love. You certainly don’t quit. They never quit on Iniesta and he’d never consider it now, not in the biggest game of all.

The Spanish were unable to exploit the resulting free kick but Iniesta, finally, ensured they got what they deserved.

Netherlands prepare for final with a trip to the zoo at World Cup

World Cup Reports:
Netherlands coach Marwijk made a slight tweak to his usual pre-match preparations ahead of 11th July World Cup final against Spain by taking his squad on an afternoon stroll around the zoo.

Van Marwijk said, ''This is the most important match in my football life and that counts for all players as none of us ever won the World title, blessed with a healthy squad for the biggest match of his life at Soccer City''. He had tried to keep preparations as normal as possible despite the magnitude of the occasion.

Though I approach it like a normal match with the preparation we always have. We walked in the morning but this time we walked through the zoo as it was nearby. Then we rested and went training.

This will be the Dutch’s third appearance in a World Cup final following back-to-back defeats in 1974 and 78 and although they will go into the match as underdogs they will be confident having extended their win streak to 14 games with victory over Uruguay in the semi-finals.

The 3-2 win over the South Americans was their sixth win in South Africa and despite their smooth run through the tournament the reserved coach said there was no reason to fear that all their confidence might turn into arrogance.

Van Marwijk said, ''Especially not for a match against Spain, It is good that we had some days to get used to circumstances again, it is necessary you could see that how the ball reacted final match.'' For example, against Japan, Slovakia and Uruguay we proved that we stayed focused. After starting their World Cup campaign at Soccer City on June 14 with a 2-0 win over Denmark and Cape Town while their most impressive win over Brazil in the quarter-finals was registered in Port Elizabeth.

Captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst, playing his final match before retirement, agreed the change in altitude takes some time to get used to.You have to adjust again, especially with long passes through the air as the ball move completely different, but it during the match it just will be a matter of course.

Now though, with what is widely acknowledged as their best ever team, Spain have a chance to become just the third team to be reigning European and world champions at the same time.

Spain won semifinals match 1-0 with Germany at world Cup

Spain star Carles Puyol scored the only goal of the game to send Spain into the World Cup final against Holland following a 1-0 victory against Germany in the FIFA South Africa on Wednesday 2010.

Loew won’t get much argument. Not after the way the reigning European champions dismantled a team that had been rolling through South Africa, winning on Carles Puyol’s thunderous header off a corner kick late in the second half.

Spain has been the best team in Europe all the world, really for much of the last four years. It’s lost all of two games since November 2006, one a shocker to Switzerland in the group-stage opener. It clinched its first major title in 44 years by beating Germany at the 2008 European Championship.By an identical 1-0 score, no less.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said, ''But that is due to the excellent performance of our team.'' The score may have been 1-0, but don’t let that fool you. Spain dominated this game from the opening whistle. It pressured Germany relentlessly, and had a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Finally, after coming on back-to-back plays in the 57th minutes Xavi swung a corner kick right into the scrum in front of the goal in the 73rd. With fellow defender and Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique next to him and screening Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s view, Puyol leaped and got his head on the ball into the net.

As the German's watched in dismay, the Spanish players gathered for a group hug at the edge of the box, bouncing up and down and rubbing each other’s heads.

Villa said, ''We’ve shown that in the big moments we can grow even more, We should have scored more goals, but one from Puyol has put us in the final.''

Germany finally threatened on 32 minutes when Piotr Trochowski, in for the suspended Thomas Mueller, shot from distance and forced Iker Casillas into a sprawling save low to his left.

Mesut Ozil thought he should have had a penalty on the stroke of half-time when he went down under a challenge from Ramos but his appeals were waved away by referee Viktor Kassai.

For all their pretty approach play, Spain were struggling to get into the box and started hitting pot shots from distance with Alonso, twice, and Villa shooting wide.

Neuer then saved from Pedro, who moments later shot wide while Villa was inches away from a tap-in after Iniesta jinked into the box and squared the ball across goal.

Up the other end substitute Marcell Jansen's cross was flicked on by a Spanish head, but on the turn Miroslav Klose could only volley high.

And on 69 minutes Germany created possibly their best chance of the match as substitute Toni Kroos arrived unmarked at the back post onto Lukas Podolski's cross but his finish was weak and straight at Casillas.

But then came Puyol's great leap to propel Spain into the final.

Messi outs in tears from quaterfinals with Germany at world Cup

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi came into the World Cup with the expectation that he would light up the tournament, but he left empty-handed, without a goal and in floods of tears from at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa with quarterfinals with Germany on Saturday 2010.

Despite being just 23, Messi has won almost every accolade there is and already has an impressive medal collection that few other players, if any, can match. Sitting in his personal trophy cabinet is already a World Cup winner's medal, but from 2005 at junior level. The one still missing is the one he wants the most a World Cup winner as a senior.

He must now wait until he is 27 for another chance after Germany crushed Messi and his Argentine teammates 4-0 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Maradona said, ''he could not explain why Messi failed to score, but defended him, claiming the Barcelona star had a good tournament, it was either because the ball was not in the right spot or because the goalies were good. But he played a great World Cup, who revealed that Messi was in tears afterwards.''

To see Messi cry in the dressing room, well, to say that if in some way he didn't honour Argentine colours then that is stupid. As expected, he was dangerous whenever he got the ball, blazing past a defender in the first half but his pass to Carlos Tevez was hit too hard and the move fizzled out. Minutes later he flicked another pass to Tevez but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was quickly off his line to avert the threat.

Messi was tireless and seeing more of the ball. He had a chance to get his first World Cup goal on 31 minutes but he skied a freekick from 25 yards out. He had another crack at goal on the half-time whistle, but like his earlier effort it too went whistling over the bar without troubling the goalkeeper.

Argentina were giving him the ball at every opportunity in the hope that he could weave his magic and get them back in the game, but once Germany's second goal went in his tournament was effectively over.

German coach coach Joachim Loew said his team was successfull in snuffing out the Messi threat. We expected the Argentine line-up and knew Messi would fall back into midfield. He is a key player so we tried to keep him under control by putting him under pressure and staying close to him. We knew that if we attacked Messi in an unfair way, he'd play the ball away and we would have free kicks against us, so our defence was spot on.

Germany force feed beat the match 4-0 with Argentina World Cup

Germany delivering a crossing free kick in the third minute of Saturday’s quarterfinals game between the two rivals. And there was the ''ball boy'' heading it and Germany crushed Argentina 4-0 with a sparkling display of attacking football to book their spot in the World Cup last four. Later, Schweinsteiger again looked rather calm and collected as he deftly dribbled through the confused Argentina defense to set up an embarrassingly easy third goal in South Africa 2010.

A double from Miroslav Klose on his 100th international appearance, along with goals from Thomas Mueller and defender Arne Friedrich ensured the convincing win over a lacklustre Argentina.

Mueller said, "It's insane to beat Argentina 4-0. It's hard to find the words for a result like that, I think Germany is quaking right now and that's the right way to celebrate this."

German coach Joachim Loew said the team had played "like champions, The team did everything nearly perfectly today, The result is nearly unbelievable because Argentina have a strong defensive team. It was first class that we were able to get so many goals."

Germany got off to a dream start when Mueller snatched his fourth goal of the tournament, heading in a curled Schweinsteiger free kick after just three minutes.Klose doubled Germany's lead in the 68th minute when Lukas Podolski out in a perfect pass from the left and the striker tapped in from close range.

Friedrich got a third with his first international goal in the 74th minute, finishing from a metre out after Schweinsteiger's cross, before Klose completed the rout with his second in the 89th minute. Dictating the pace early in the first half, Germany refused to fall back after their quick lead, pressing high in Argentina's half and coming close to a second through Sami Khedira and Klose.

Germany, who beat Argentina on penalties at the same stage of the tournament in 2006, gradually allowed their opponents to come forward, responding with lightning-quick counter-attacks.

The Argentines, with playmaker Lionel Messi often stifled by two or three defenders, tried desperately to level with long-range shots before Klose doubled the German lead.

Friedrich then added the third six minutes later, before Klose volleyed home a cross from Mesut Ozil for the fourth and his 14th World Cup goal, just one short of Ronaldo's all time record.

Carlos Tevez said, "We just had a bad game. If you make mistakes like that, you go home, We knew they could be dangerous on set-pieces and on the counter-attack.'' Germany now play the winners of the other quarterfinal with Spain  later on Saturday at World Cup in South Africa 2010.

Netherlands underachievers anymore, not after the way fenced to upset five-time champion Brazil 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals on Friday 2/7/2010 and reached to semifinals.

Brazil, the five-times champions, took a 10th minute lead through Robinho and dominated the first-half against a Dutch team which initially looked outclassed.

But the Dutch levelled out of the blue in the 53rd minute after a rare mistake from Brazil's usually impenetrable defence, as Felipe Melo headed Sneijder's cross into his own goal. Then Sneijder headed a winner as the Dutch, battling to their 13th successive World Cup win to maintain a perfect record in the qualifiers and finals, avenged a quarterfinal defeat in 1994 and a semifinal defeat four years later.

Sneijder said, "In the changing-room at half-time,everyone said to each other 'let's give everything' and that's what we did. We fought for each other, in the second half, we put a lot of pressure on their defence and to score twice was fantastic."

He said more "We're in the last four of the world. To beat Brazil 2-1 in the quarterfinal, you have to be pleased with that. But in the next days, we will have to get our heads in focus again." Dutch coach said, "In the first 20 minutes, I was happy that the score was only 1-0, and I told Frank that we still have a chance. In the second half we showed how good we are,"

Brazil had started brightly with Felipe Melo, returning from an ankle injury which kept him out of the second round match against Chile, setting up the first goal after 10 minutes of the clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

He threaded a 30-metre pass through the Dutch midfield and Robinho timed his run perfectly to score with a first-time shot past Maarten Stekelenburg. The game turned niggly, although Brazil managed to produced a some flowing moves and should have extended their lead. Juan volleyed over from close range after a jinking run on the right by Dani Alves and Stekelenburg produced a superb one-handed save to tip away Kaka's curling effort, following a dazzling Robinho run down the left.

The Dutch rarely threatened with Arjen Robben far too predictable to outfox the Brazil rearguard. But they levelled out of the blue eight minutes after the break when Felipe Melo touched Sneijder's looping cross-shot into his own net.

Kaka missed an excellent chance to put Brazil back ahead, side-footing wide from the edge of the area after the ball was gifted to him by a poor clearance. Sneijder’s goal followed a corner kick from Robben. Dirk Kuyt flicked the ball with his head to Sneijder in the middle of the 6-yard box and he rose high enough to deflect it into the left corner of the goal.

Sneijder said, ''it was an amazing game. I think we showed the whole world how we can play, finally we won, we beat Brazil.''

Argentina's spirit features of Tevez the FIFA in South Africa

Sports News:
Argentina's Tevez one man of the people, has featured the determination of his country to win a third World Cup in South Africa 2010.

Tevez said, "I want the Cup and let no one take it from me,'' who enjoys a popularity with Argentina's fans akin to that of coach Diego Maradona. The commitment of the player who, like Maradona rose from a tough Buenos Aires shanty town, shone through with his two-goal performance in the 3-1 second round win over Mexico four days ago.

But Tevez, known by those close to him as Carlitos, was not sure of his place in Maradona's side until the final build-up to the tournament. It's tough to leave Carlitos out, Maradona had said in Buenos Aires before Argentina left for South Africa.

He is the first to recognise he had a poor qualifying campaign in which he was sent off twice and missed a penalty away to Ecuador.Tevez worked hard to regain Maradona's confidence and was rewarded when the coach came to the conclusion he could not leave him out.

A tactical switch freed up a place in attack and Tevez has slotted into a trident with Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.Tevez said the Argentina, "Diego came to my room one day and said me I know you're going to be brilliant.'' World Player of the Year Messi has yet to get off the mark but Higuain and Tevez have contributed six of Argentina's 10 goals.
